Enough questions to cover a syllabus properly
Most candidates exhaust their question bank before they exhaust their weaknesses, then re-attempt questions they have already memorised and mistake familiarity for competence. At 5,330 questions across 30 chapters and 1,858 pages, this bank is large enough that the problem does not arise within a normal preparation cycle.
Scale alone would not justify it. What makes it the Academy’s primary assessment recommendation is that the coverage is proportional — chapter length tracks the weight each topic carries in the actual examinations, so a candidate who works through it evenly finishes evenly prepared.
Using it across a preparation cycle
The Academy’s suggested pattern over six months: chapter-wise during the first three, mixed random sets during the fourth and fifth to break topic cueing, and full-length timed papers in the last six weeks. Topic cueing is the quiet failure mode of chapter-wise practice — a candidate answering thirty consecutive valve questions is not being tested the way the board will test them.

Explanations carry trial attribution where an answer depends on evidence rather than physiology — ISCHEMIA, COMPLETE, DANISH, PARADIGM-HF, EMPEROR, PARTNER and COAPT recur, as they do in the papers themselves.
