The Academy publishes a set of free reference material for clinicians who want to see the standard of the teaching before committing to a course or a book. Everything on this page is written by Dr A M Thirugnanam, MD, MSICP, FSCAI, Ph.D., Senior Interventional Cardiologist, and is free to download and to print for personal clinical and teaching use.

What is available

  • A rapid ECG interpretation framework. The fixed reading sequence, on one page, in the order it should be applied — rate, rhythm, axis, intervals, chamber enlargement, ischaemia, then the deliberate second look at the leads that are habitually skipped.
  • Chest pain and acute coronary syndrome triage. What decides admission, what decides immediate catheterisation, and the presentations that are repeatedly sent home.
  • Heart failure at a glance. Classification, the four pillars of guideline-directed medical therapy, realistic titration steps and the point at which referral is overdue.
  • Guideline changes worth knowing. A short summary of the positions that have moved recently, with what changed and what it means at the bedside.
  • Cardiac drug and dosing reference. A working table of the agents used daily, with the dose adjustments that renal impairment and age actually require.

Using this material in teaching

Consultants and programme directors are welcome to print and distribute these sheets to their own trainees, with the Academy attribution left intact. If you want a version adapted for a specific unit — a departmental protocol sheet, a resident induction pack — ask through the contact page.

When the free material runs out

Reference sheets are deliberately compressed; they tell you what to do, not why. The reasoning behind each of them is set out in full in the Academy reading list — the diagnosis and imaging titles for ECG and echocardiography, the acute care titles for the emergency pathways, and the heart failure and rhythm titles for the chronic management.
