Why the Academy recommends the library over individual titles
Two reasons, one pedagogical and one practical. Pedagogically, cardiology reading assembled piecemeal develops the shape of the reader’s interests rather than the shape of the specialty — the interventionally-minded trainee under-reads imaging, the imaging-minded trainee under-reads pharmacology, and both discover it in the exam. A complete library makes the gap visible.
Practically, the titles cross-reference each other. The heart failure volumes assume the pharmacology chapters; the interventional volumes assume the imaging ones. Read as a set, the cross-references resolve. Read in isolation, they are dead ends.
