There is a gap in most cardiology libraries between the books that get you through the boards and the books that help you in your fifth year as a consultant. Examination texts are optimised for what can be asked. Independent practice is dominated by what cannot — the patient who does not fit, the guideline that does not apply, the decision that has to be defensible to a colleague rather than to an examiner.

How it differs from the training-grade collections
Less compression, more argument. Where a revision text states a threshold, these volumes explain what the threshold was derived from, which populations it was derived in, and where it stops being reliable. That is unhelpful under exam pressure and indispensable when a patient sits outside the trial population, which in real clinics is most of them.
Placement in the pathway
Recommended to members who have completed training and to senior trainees in their final year. Members still preparing for boards are directed to the board collection first — reading this one during revision tends to introduce doubt where the examination wants certainty.
