Distinct from the prevention collection
The Academy prevention track is about managing established risk factors in people already identified as at risk. This volume is a step earlier — how you find disease that is present but silent, and whether finding it should change what you do. Members typically take both; the questions genuinely differ.
Detection while silent
Coronary artery calcium scoring, with honest treatment of what a zero score means and how long it stays reassuring. CT coronary angiography as a risk tool rather than a symptomatic investigation. Carotid intima-media thickness and where it has fallen out of favour. Biomarkers including Lp(a) and high-sensitivity CRP. Then the harder question
Whether detection should change management, and in whom. The volume is appropriately cautious — screening asymptomatic people has costs, false positives generate anxiety and further investigation, and the evidence for treating on imaging alone is not uniform. That caution is what makes it usable rather than promotional.
